Course Overview
This CNE web-based training program fulfils the great need for access to hepatitis information that is up-to-date, accurate, and easy to incorporate into clinical practice. This CNE activity includes updated clinical and epidemiological information to assist health care professionals including physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers to assess and care for patients by providing essential information related to identifying, screening, diagnosing and the challenges in managing the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection. Participants assess their knowledge of material learned through post-test questions at the end of each section.
Course Goals and Objectives
The purpose of this activity is to introduce key issues surrounding screening, diagnosis, care and treatment for HCV.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss techniques to identify patients’ risk of exposure, screening, antibody, and confirmatory testing.
- Describe acute and chronic hepatitis C.
- Discuss specific management activities prior to and during hepatitis C treatment e.g., depression and teratogencity of ribavirin.
- Describe expectations for treatment success.
- Give examples of patient education messages.
Audience
The activity is intended for health care professionals including physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers. It is especially useful for providers who treat individuals at risk for hepatitis infection.

This activity is offered as 1 CNE unit in collaboration with The Maryland Nurses Association (MNA). The Maryland Nurses Association Continuing Education Provider Committee (CEPC) is the ANCC-accredited provider unit for continuing nursing education (CNE) within MNA and its Districts.
